LAKE RIDGE STUDENT SHINES IN NATIONAL SCRIPTWRITING CONTEST
Over the summer, Kadeyn Aulton, a junior at Lake Ridge High School, participated in the Dr. Barbara Seniors Harkins Foundation Back-to-School Screenplay Writing Contest. The competition is open to teens ages 11-17.
Aulton joined the Los Angeles-based program, which allowed him to express his passion for film production. After trial and error, he submitted his screenplay, and months later he learned he had placed second in the entire nation. As a prize, he received an Amazon Fire tablet.
Aulton has always had a strong passion for film and frequently works on projects to showcase his creativity.
“ I’ ve found that by using my own personal hardships, I can connect and relate to the audience, which is such a great way to portray powerful stories,” Aulton said.
His goal is to enter more competitions, continue honing his skills, and create new work. After high school, Aulton hopes to pursue a degree in film and dreams of working alongside creators such as Jordan Peele or Tyler Perry. He is determined to follow his passion and bring his stories to life.
“ The scripts we received in this contest reflected a very talented group of teenagers,” said scriptwriting contest coordinator Mark Richardson.“ It truly was a difficult deliberation choosing the winners. These three students should be very proud of themselves and their outstanding work. They clearly have bright futures ahead of them.”
