MANSFIELD ISD ALUMNI SHINE AT 2024 SUMMER OLYMPICS
The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris held special significance for Mansfield ISD as two alumni competed for Team USA in track and field , bringing pride to former teachers , coaches , and the entire MISD community .
JASMINE MOORE – LAKE RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2019
Jasmine Moore , a state champion before graduating from Lake Ridge High School in 2019 , qualified for the Tokyo Olympics at age 18 and became a seven-time NCAA champion during her college career .
In her second Olympic appearance , Moore made history as the first U . S . woman to qualify for both the triple jump and long jump , earning bronze medals in each event .
“ I was hoping to get one medal , but getting two was just the cherry on top ,” Moore said .
More than 20 members of Moore ’ s family traveled to France to support her , a stark contrast to the Tokyo Olympics , which were held during the COVID-19 pandemic and had no spectators .
“ To have my whole family there made everything so worth it . I just wanted to do it for them , make them proud , and give them something good to celebrate ,” Moore said .
At 23 , Moore hopes to continue her career for years to come . She plans to compete at the 2025 World Indoor Track and Field Championships in China in March and the 2025 World Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Tokyo next September .

JOSEPH BROWN – MANSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2014
Joseph Brown , who ran track and played football at Mansfield High School before continuing his athletic career at Texas A & M Commerce , became a media sensation at the 2024 Olympics . His backstory as an unsponsored athlete and self-proclaimed underdog added to the excitement surrounding his discus competition .
Brown said that being part of the Olympic team made the sacrifices he and his wife have made worthwhile .
“ It was like a dream come true – everything you could have hoped for as a little kid ,” Brown said .
Brown finished in the top three at the U . S . Olympic Trials to qualify for the team , but in Paris , he was unable to achieve the marks needed to advance to the final . He is already focusing on future goals , including the World Outdoor Championships in September 2026 .

“ That ’ s the next big thing on my agenda – training for Tokyo next year and continuing to improve . I plan to try to make the [ USA Olympic ] team for Los Angeles 2028 ,” Brown said . “ I will keep training , competing , and improving , and hopefully , I ’ ll secure some sponsorships to help me stay in the sport longer .”
