DOZENS OF MISD FUTURE EDUCATORS
ADVANCE TO STATE
F
ifty-three Mansfield ISD
students competed in the
regional Texas Association
of Future Educators (TAFE)
competition, and all 53
students qualified for the
state contest.
TAFE is an organization
created to give students an
opportunity to explore the
teaching profession.
Students can also choose to
participate in a variety of
competitive events where
they can demonstrate their
impressive abilities to create
lessons and activities for a
variety of grade levels and
subject matters.
The state contest will be held
Feb. 28 through March 2 in
Allen, Texas. Participants will
be able to earn scholarships,
network and learn best
practices.
Thirty-two students from
Mansfield High School, 10
students from Summit High
School and 11 students
from Ben Barber Innovation
Academy will be taking part in
the state TAFE competition.
TAFE was created in 1984 to
provide Texas middle school
and high schools students
the necessary knowledge to
make informed decisions
about pursuing careers in
education.
The organization is sponsored
by the Texas Association of
Secondary School Principals.
MISD STAFF RECEIVE NEARLY $94,000 IN
GRANTS TO FUND INNOVATIVE PROJECTS

he Mansfield
ISD Education
Foundation
surprised staff
members with
more than $93,000
in grants to
support innovative
projects and
activities in the
classroom.
The fall 2018 prize
patrol went around
to campuses in
November and
December to give
away a total of 32
grants.
$15,000 to fund
drones at the
Jerry Knight STEM
Academy.
The MISD Education Foundation goes on a
two-day patrol to surprise staff with grants.
A majority of the grants
focused on science,
technology, engineering and
math (STEM) activities.
There were also grants to
foster student empowerment
and wellbeing.
The largest grant was
sponsored by Mouser
Electronics for more than

Mansfield ISD’s
Education
Foundation is a non-
profit organization
that increases
private support
for educational
activities in the
district by awarding
funds to teachers for
innovative projects
and programs that
are not funded by
tax dollars.
Altogether, the organization
has raised more than $3.5
million in grants since its
inception in 1998.
