MISD Announces It’s Heartbeat Award Winners

ansfield ISD is proud to announce the
winners of a top district award for
employees. The first Heartbeat Award recipients
for the 2015-16 school year are: Mary Costa, P.E.
teacher at Martha Reid Elementary School, and
Kay Tamakian, assistant principal secretary at
Legacy High School.
The MISD Heartbeat Award is given to
employees who display heart in their lives and
inspire other district employees through their
actions. Winners are nominated by fellow
employees. Six to eight winners will be selected
during the course of the school year.
“Mary Costa is very deserving of the award,”
said Martha Reid principal Rebecca Stephens.
“She is passionate about health and fitness and
motivates the community through her dedication
to our youth. You can just tell she loves her job
through everything she does and the enthusiasm
she brings to her classes.”

Tamakian’s coworkers said her selfless attitude is
what inspires them to do better every day.
“Kay Tamakian has a giving and caring nature,”
said Legacy principal Shelly Butler. “She
remains selfless and dedicated to her husband
through his difficult struggle with ALS (Lou
Gehrig’s disease). Through it all, she has always
kept a positive attitude and goes above and
beyond to meet the needs of students, parents
and staff of Legacy.”
Costa and Tamakian were recognized at
ceremonies held at their campuses in which
students and staff members celebrated their
prestigious award.
