Who ’ s number one ? For the district ’ s Battle of the Books competition , it was Cora Spencer Elementary School . The contest encourages students to read good books and have fun while competing with their peers .
In the year of its first graduating class , MISD ’ s Early College High School has a senior ( Jesus Herrera ) who received a full ride to Princeton University .
He ’ s one of only a few world-class technicians in the country ! Joel Thomas , from the MISD transportation department , earned the title after passing multiple certification exams .
These students at Frontier STEM Academy are diving into their Future Forward project . With the projects , learners collaborate with local businesses to try to solve a problem and create a viable product for the betterment of the community .
A Rogene Worley Middle School student ( Roxye Pierce ) was a finalist in the Teens Dream Changemaker Challenge . The competition , hosted by The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History , prompts students to create a video explaining a solution to a global issue .
Congratulations to MISD ’ s new spelling bee champ ! Dejanira Castillo , from Asa Low Intermediate School , won with the word “ encore .”
