BOARD MEMBER PROFILE : DESIREE THOMAS

with the children ministries . She was always volunteering to help with something , and I usually tagged along with her . She was always so positive . She would say , “ You can always find something positive in any situation if you look for it .”
( They time you out at 15 years .) I worked in the bonds office and subbed in Mansfield ISD until I became a board member . So basically , I quit my paying job to volunteer more — my husband is still confused about that one .
Thomas has served on the school board since 2018 .
Give us a brief bio of your career .
Before my girls were born , I worked as the office manager for a group of five plastic surgeons . This was both fun and challenging . After the girls were born , I started volunteering and joined the PTA . I ’ m currently serving my 15th and last year on the district ’ s Council of PTAs .
What makes you so passionate about Mansfield ISD ?
I love our district . It offers so many opportunities to our students . I love being involved and helping with whatever I can to help each and every one of our students be successful in whatever they decide to do after graduation .
What schools did you attend ?
I went to Dewey High School in a very small town in Oklahoma . Then , I attended the University of Oklahoma .
What is one quote that has become your life ’ s motto ?
“ Do unto others as you would have them do unto you .” I like this because it reminds me to be kind , respectful and to have understanding .
What would be the perfect afternoon for you ?
A walk with my dog , a little Sudoku and reading a good mystery novel .
Who was your role model growing up ?
My Grandma . She was a very kind and patient person , a great listener and a very devout Christian . She was a very strong leader in her church
Apart from volunteering , Thomas said she loves spending quality time and going on adventures with her husband and two girls .
