SPECIAL EDUCATION EDUCATORS HONORED AT THE STATE LEVEL

Two Mansfield ISD educators are being recognized at the state level for doing an outstanding job in the realm of special education .

Tamara N ’ ti Mensah , resource teacher at Louise Cabaniss Academy of Young Scholars , and Shay Utley , certified orientation and mobility specialist , received high honors from the Texas Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired ( TAER ).
Mensah was given the Julia Young Award . It is presented to an individual who has done outstanding work with children who are visually impaired in Texas . Her nomination form stated that she is a natural at accommodating and adapting .
“ My son receives special education services . As a parent , I ’ m sympathetic to special needs ,” said Mensah .
“ All children should have the tools needed to succeed .”
Utley received the Bob Bryant and Bill Bryan Leadership Award , which is given to those who have demonstrated leadership through the development of professionals to serve blind and visually impaired individuals in Texas and continue to serve the field in a variety of positions .
She said it is remarkable that two state-level recognitions were given to educators in Mansfield ISD , and it speaks to the quality of special education staff in the district .
“ Mansfield ISD is well known for its special education department and our top-notch services ,” said Utley . “ Our directors support and trust us , we love each other , and it ’ s a joy to work together on this team .”
Mensah and Utley attended the TAER confererence in Round Rock , TX .
Nominations for the awards were submitted to and reviewed by a TAER committee . Winners were announced in March .

MISD SUPERINTENDENT RECEIVES AWARD FOR SERVICE

Mansfield ISD Superintendent Dr . Kimberley Cantu was awarded for her exemplary service .

At the Texas Council of Women School Executives ( TCWSE ) annual conference , Dr . Cantu was presented
Dr . Cantu ( fourth from right ) received the award in Austin . with the 2022 Bravo Award .
The distinction is given for exemplary practitioners , innovative programs and initiatives that promote community and parental involvement .
Bravo Award winners are nominated by current TCWSE members . There was one winner from each TCWSE region .
Founded in 1984 , TCWSE is a united community of professional educational executives who promote equity and quality in leadership through renewal , mentoring and career advancement support .
