MISD HEALING AFTER A TRAGEDY
When students and staff members at Timberview High School arrived to campus on Wednesday , Oct . 6 , no one could have predicated the devastating events that would later ensue .
The school went on lockdown after a shooting occurred . There were no fatalities , and those injured have since been released from the hospital . Although students were able to be reunified with their families successfully , the healing process will continue to be an ongoing process .
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
In the days after the crisis , the Mansfield ISD community came together to give overwhelming support to those affected by the tragedy .
“ The support shown demonstrated the things that make the Mansfield
ISD community so incredible and strong ,” said Superintendent Dr . Kimberley Cantu . “ We pulled together to help each other , and we received an outpouring of help for our students , staff , families and first responders .”
Along with counseling support and free community resources , parents , families , students and community members found creative ways to uplift Timberview High School and let those students and staff members know that they are loved and supported .
SAFETY AND SECURITY
Staff members and volunteers showed up with snacks , smiles and hugs to welcome students after the incident .
MISD ’ s commitment as a district has been , and will continue to be , that every one of its students and staff members feel safe and secure , both physically and social-emotionally , when coming into an MISD building .
Since the Timberview High School crisis , the district has been taking an even closer look at its systems , analyzing what is working and assessing what needs to be improved upon .

• The Mansfield ISD Police Department is partnering with neighboring agencies to ensure that more law enforcement is available at campuses .
• A designated staff member at the district level , who is fully trained in safety and security , is assisting campuses in monitoring high- traffic and common areas in real time through video surveillance systems .
Heightened Safety Protocols
• Random classroom checks are being implemented on secondary campuses to check for weapons and other unauthorized objects using metal detector wands .
open dialogue about the topic , the district hosted a Safety and Security Town Hall Meeting on Oct . 21 . The meeting featured a panel of community leaders and experts with attendees having the opportunity to ask questions and offer suggestions about student safety .
The feedback given will help the district ’ s school safety committee — comprised of students , staff , parents and community members — which will review systematic procedures and determine the next best steps .
