A FAMILY CULTURE
When asked what makes Mansfield ISD a special place to work , educators noted that it ’ s the support they receive from colleagues that makes each campus so tight-knit .
“ Teaching in a pandemic is no easy feat . There were certainly tough times , but I know that my crew has my back ,” said Sharon Dressel , librarian at Willie E . Brown Academy of Young Scholars . “ We worked as a team to do what ’ s best for students .”
That sentiment was shared throughout campuses and departments . Even during a nationwide shortage of staff , auxiliary workers pulled together to keep their areas functioning at a high level . Cherri Wiggins , a longtime bus driver at Mansfield ISD , said she ’ s stayed with the district for so long because she loves what she does and loves the kids .
“ We get it done ,” said Wiggins . “ When there ’ s something to do , we do it . We ’ re here for the kids . That ’ s why we do what we do .”
RECRUITING AND RETAINING THE BEST
Employees are a critical part of any organization . The MISD Human Resources Department works to hire and retain the best . Dr . Jennifer Stoecker , assistant superintendent of human resources , said her department is constantly looking for ways to remain competitive against other districts .
“ To provide students with an exceptional education , we ’ re committed to hiring the best , having high employee satisfaction and offering continuous improvement opportunities for all employees through support services and up-to-date trainings ,” Dr . Stoecker said .
She added that there have been compensation adjustments for employee groups , such as bus drivers , custodians , student nutrition staff and substitute teachers . Her department continuously assesses pay grades to encourage and grow highly qualified staff .
Mansfield ISD was awarded with the Forbes America ’ s Best-in-State Employers in 2019 as well . With the challenges schools faced all across the country pertaining to COVID-19 and staffing shortages , School Board President Michelle Newsom said the acknowledgment is certainly something to be proud of .
