MISD Facilities Named After Notable Former Employees

our former Mansfield ISD staff members have been recognized for their
accomplishments within the district by having facilities named after them.
Debbie Weems, Darrell Sneed, Samantha Morrow and Rodney Shropshire were
officially honored at the regular board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 23.
The MISD natatorium will have Debbie Weems as its namesake. Weems
came to the district as the Mansfield High School girls basketball coach. In
1996, Weems was named as the athletic director. She was only the third female
athletic director in the state of Texas.

The now-retired athletic director played an integral part in opening five middle
schools and four high schools in the district. She also implemented Mansfield
ISD’s swimming and diving program.
The professional development center at R.L. Anderson Stadium will bear
the name of Darrell Sneed. The 34-year educator first came to the district as
the principal of T.A. Howard Middle School. He later returned to the district in
2008 as the secondary assistant superintendent.

Sneed was later promoted to become the associate superintendent of curriculum,
instruction and accountability. He is very passionate about education and
spearheaded Mansfield ISD’s programs for dual credit and early childhood
education during his tenure.
Summit High School’s varsity gymnasium will be named after Samantha
Morrow. Morrow was Mansfield High School’s assistant girls basketball coach
under then head coach Debbie Weems. When Coach Weems became Mansfield
ISD’s athletic director, Coach Morrow was named as the new head coach for the
Lady Tigers team and won four consecutive 5A state championships.

In 2002, Coach Morrow became the head coach for Summit High School’s girls
basketball team. She led the Lady Jaguars to the state semifinals in 2007. Coach
Morrow’s record of 413-77 gave her a win percentage of .843 in her 14 years of
coaching in Mansfield ISD.
The basketball gym at Brooks Wester Middle School will now be called
the Rodney Shropshire Gymnasium. Shropshire came to Mansfield ISD as a
physical education teacher and junior varsity coach after being a successful high
school and collegiate-level basketball player.
He was promoted to be the head coach of the Mansfield High School’s boys
basketball team and held that position from 1982 to 1988. Under Coach
Shropshire’s leadership, the team won two district championships, advanced to
the regional semifinals and advanced to the state championship game.

Congratulations to these four employees who made a significant impact during
their time at Mansfield ISD.
