apartment and placed our hands on the
steaming heater. Let me just say, that was
the last time I ever touched snow without
gloves.
Oh my! Lol. The two sisters were culture
shocked once again...
Assimilating to the American culture had its
pros and cons. My sister and I were excited
about the never ending, brightly lit isles in
the supermarkets and riding on the trains in
the subway. That meant we didn’t have to
walk in the hot sun to reach desired
destinations.
Like school? Lol. What was it like
going to school in the States...
The public school experience took a
little getting used to. There were
several students and teachers that did
not look like me and they spoke in
a "strange way."
The teasing ensued and the
sisters were teased from their accents
to their hairdos...
My sister and I were teased on a daily
basis because of our accents. My
classmates were curious about where
we were from and why we spoke
the way we do.
