In 1996, Sir John
hung up his hat
and retired.
In 1997, he was
knighted by the
Queen of England.
He re-entered the
political arena that
same year and became the
leader of the United Workers
Party once again. When some
questioned his age for running,
he said he wasn't running for
the Olympics (lol).
In 2002, he was
awarded the
Order of the Caribbean
Community.
In 2006, he won the
elections becoming
St. Lucia's Prime Minister
for the third time and the
rep for Micoud North for the
first time. He was the
minister of finance.
In March of
2005, at 81,
Sir John came out of
retirement.
On May 1, 2007,
while in New York,
he suffered a series of
strokes.
