" It doesn ’ t matter how slow you go as long as you do not stop .” Confucius
But of course as I started sharing my dream majority of the feedback was encouraging , some tried to modify and edit my dream . So for a few days I vacillated between Caribbean Callaloo and Manmay LaKay Magazine . I thought about it and went back to where my heart was all along — with Manmay LaKay . And so for months I had two issues keeping me up at night — the magazine and lack of work . Then as the year progressed my sister Nazy one of my main sounding boards who was taking care of my niece and studying to become an Early Childhood Educator was diagnosed with Lupus . My days would now involve babysitting my niece and taking my sister to doctor .
See folks , everything that happened in the interim of me getting this job was just God ordering my steps and aligning my dream team for Manmay LaKay Magazine .
My initial released date was to be October for Creole Day , then February for Independence , then October again , then February , then October , then February . When friends weren ' t bailing on me something always seemed to happen . Then my sister , my sounding board , who was diagnosed with Lupus grew increasingly ill . Coping with my sister ’ s illness was intense , and heartbreaking . Lupus then claimed her life on
March 2nd , 2015 . Sigh ...
Then I had another epithany . God knew that my sister would need me to help her and take her to her many doctor visits as she dealt with the uncertainty of her future and health and hence the delay in finding a job . Ah ! Everything happens for a reason .
Six months after my sisters diagnosis , I landed an internship as a junior copywriter with a financial services company — they found me this time .
The career department at Florida Atlantic University ( FAU ) had sent out my resume along with ten others to that company ; they called me , I attended the interview and here I am 4 years later .
What an eye opener working there has been . I ' ve learned so much that the message was now clear . Not only did I have no capital , it was clear that I knew nothing about starting a business or a publication even though I had contributed to my school ' s newspaper .
" It doesn ’ t matter how slow you go as long as you do not stop .” Confucius
Anyhow , folks , nothing happens before its time . Just as I was about to break I had a breakthrough and got that internship . It was all part of the plan . When a dream is planted in your heart God orders all your steps and guide you . You can ' t force it , you can ' t amend
God ' s plan .
My knowledge of the industry has broadened and although my employment status had changed , the dream planted in my heart that November night remained .
Manmay LaKay Magazine much like the people she celebrates is resilient . Here it is folks , the premier issue of Manmay LaKay Magazine . A testament that regardless of your dream or project or task you never give up . Remember , " It doesn ’ t matter how slow you go as long as you do not stop .”
Get up ! Get out ! Go live your dream !
Cheers !
