MU | N e w s Michael Case Michael Case is assistant vice president and chief technology officer. Q&A Where did you go to school? I attended the University of Oklahoma for my first two years of undergraduate school but finished in 1992 at Milligan College in Tennessee with a degree in computer science. I completed my master of business in 1997 from the University of Saint Francis. What are some of your job responsibilities? I’m responsible for all of the information technology-related needs for the University. This includes the lab PCs; the network, including wired and wireless; and our connection to the Internet. I’m also responsible for the server-based services 8| such as the student information system, learning technology, web functionality like e-forms; the data we maintain and its security, and MU phone and cable TV services. What brought you to Manchester? A chance encounter. I’m not one to review the job postings in the newspapers but I was scanning the paper one Sunday morning when I saw the ad for my current position and it spoke to me. I wasn’t looking for a job but this opportunity intrigued me. What are your hobbies? My two daughters are my biggest hobby since they keep me so busy. When I’m not playing the role of a doting father, I’m a geek. I spend a lot of time on the computer whether for work or to pass time. I also enjoy reading, watching movies, sports and various TV shows. Do you have any favorite stories that happened while on the job? All of my favorite stories involve the great people with whom I’ve worked over the years. There have been an incredible number of times when we’ve shared a really good laugh or worked together through difficult issues. What do you like best about working at Manchester? The people and the mission. Especially the people, because without them there would be no mission. What’s your best advice for students? Always develop your grit. There will be times that will challenge you seemingly beyond your means. But grit and determination often lead to success during these times.
