“Grow Toward the Sky”
May 17, 2015, marked a new tradition at Manchester:
Graduates were invited to take a small oak tree at
Commencement as a gift from the University. A generationsold symbol of the North Manchester campus, the tree
symbolizes MU’s aspiration for its graduates. “Like your oak
tree, you will soar,” said John Minnich ’01 ’02ma, president
of the Alumni Association. “Keep looking up. Grow toward
the sky and you will see there are no limits to where you
can go.”
Stanley J. Noffsinger ’76, general secretary of the Church
of the Brethren, received an honorary doctorate.
“Bloom wherever you are planted.
And then go and plant some seeds of
your own in the lives of others with
faith that they, too, will grow. Enjoy
the journey.”
– Benediction delivered by
Mark Zinser ’15
“As we all continue on the road of discovery and
growth, help us to develop our gifts, increase in
wisdom, and become all that we were made to be.
Open us to the possibilities of today and each day.”
– Walt Wiltschek, campus pastor
