Women Empowerment

Today I am triggered . Triggered to watch a video of a middle-aged woman being evicted from her matrimonial home after raising her children to adulthood . She has strict instructions to leave her main house and is living in her servant quarters . Loosely speaking , she has no voice , no home , no future at 50 years of age .

According to the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 , it is pertinent to work towards various social , economic and environmental goals . Goal No 5 of the SDGs specifically focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls .
» There should be an end to all discrimination and violence against women .
» There should be no harmful practices against women and girls while respecting the aspect of inclusion such as female genital mutilation and child marriages .
» Women should participate fully in all aspects of production and economy in each society without any alienation .
» Women and girls should access sexual and reproductive health as a right not a favor .
» Domestic and unpaid care should be recognized and remunerated fairly .
