correctly so , that the sun never set on the British Empire .
It was this Queen ’ s destiny that , unlike her predecessors who build the empire , her role was to be as the overseer in the dismantling of the British Empire as the revolt against colonial subjugation took root globally and intensified .
In fact , the same year that she ascended to the throne in Kenya , in October of the very same year , a state of emergency was declared in Kenya in response to a rebellious uprising of a land liberation army against settlers .
The modus operandi for the expansion of the empire was for the British adventurers to ‘ discover ’ a land , declare it uninhabited , if there were no white people present and employing the might of the musket subjugate it .
Those thus subdued by force were expected to be grateful for the pax Britannica that supposedly ensued totally ignoring the fact that there had been no strife in the area before their arrival and the subsequent destabilization .
The competition was actually between European powers and the unfortunate inhabitants of the colonies being occupied were simply seen as collateral damage as they did not matter in the scheme of things at that particular time .
The British colonists would first attempt to conscript the local inhabitants into providing free labor , failing which they were quite prepared to annihilate the entire local population or restrict and contain them in native reserves .
Unfortunately for the African countries , the advent of independence did not get rid of the colonial oppressors since the apparent political independence actually left the former masters still in control of the economy in the hands of their African lackeys .
The group of newly independent but dependent countries from British rule were formed into a group known as the Commonwealth , a supposedly free association which maintained ties of friendship and cooperation .
Why would a country fight for independence and then maintain ties ? The only logical explanation is that those countries only got nominal independence and they were still effectively under control . An apt name

With such attachments to Kenya there were those who , without any known precedent , hoped that the King would at least apologize for colonial injustices previously committed and the untold sufferings Kenyans were subjected to .
The best they were able to pry from the monarch was an acknowledgement of his greatest sorrow and deepest regret of the many abhorrent and unjustifiable act of violence during the colonial era .
There were even those who had hoped that an admission of guilt , however backhanded , would have moved the King to come with a Sterling Pound cheque to start settling many pending cases demanding reparations that have been filed in the British courts .
What many of those holding such unrealistic dreams obviously did not realize is that the King has no power or authority to even begin to address the myriad issues that the Kenyan people could justifiably take issue with his realm .
The monarchy , unfortunately for Kenya , is completely outdated with no discernable relevance to today ’ s geopolitical issues and problems . The king was on a public relations tour on behalf of the British parliament and the foreign office as a tourists ’ attraction .
The person Kenyans need to be speaking to is the prime minister whose government still controls the Kenyan economy fronted by the many British firms , NGOs and conservancies whose origin are in that painful colonial era .
This is same King , remember , during whose coronation , had invited the presidential cohort of the Commonwealth and proceeded to denigrate them by huddling them into a bus . Perhaps Kenya just wanted to repay the insult by having him in enter a Tuk Tuk .
It is in this light that we can understand Malema ’ s frustration , even though the convenient and foreign diplomatic etiquette does not allow him to speak on behalf of Kenyans who were very likely also asking - what exactly was the King actually doing here ?
