Re-Branding : ‘ Kuoga Na Kurudi Soko ’ And Climate Change Perspectives
By Boniface Ngahu
Recently Nairobi hosted the Africa Climate Conference and the Kenyans seemed to enjoy the glory of hosting such a relevant and current themed event . Since the proceedings of the conference were highly reported and documented in the Nairobi Declaration this column has been dedicated to some of the side shows during the event .
From a political perspective we saw both opposition and the ruling party in Kenya being keen to participate in the conference . One of the cheeky observations was that Kalonzo Musyoka one of the principals in the Opposition coalition stepped into the Stepped House on the Hill aka State House for the dinner hosted by President Ruto reported to be his first time visit since the last Kenyan General elections was held in August 2022 . Climate Venue was Viewed as a Hot Spot for Tinder Dates and Ambush Marketing
Away from the climate discussions the youngsters also mentioned that there was an ongoing online discussion about Kenya International Conference Center ( KICC ) the venue hosting the conference being a dating hot spot for Tinderets . Apparently all someone with the Tinder app installed on their phones had to do was to go near KICC and switch on the app to land a hot date . It brought ambush marketing thoughts into my mind where brands invade high level events for viewers or participants eye balls without being the events official sponsors . I also remembered about some climate conference held at UNEP ’ s Gigiri Nairobi where one presenter used the evolution of women underwear from the old large Mothers Union to the recent tiny G and C strings as the basis of his
