From where we sit , we were stunned and shocked as to why the current administration had chosen to take an adversarial stance against the very public that put it into power , talking down to the electorate in an arrogant and dismissive style , deficient of any iota of empathy .
They may be acutely aware of the tenuous hold they have as the legitimate leaders and the bravado they display in their speech and behavior is a smokescreen for a group of people trying desperately to consolidate power .
This also explains why they spent their first months in office actively discrediting the achievements of the last administration and feverishly raiding the ranks of the opposition to buy the support they need to feel safe .
The current politics in Kenya is not about running the whole country as a unit but about a group of insecure politicians trying to build a national base by the only means they know - buying the opposition .
That is why they are extremely intolerant to criticism and fly into an absurd rage when they are called out . In the process they have confused the electorate with the opposition . When the electorate complains , what they hear is the opposition and lash out at them .
The second is that they consciously lied to Kenyans and the lies they told during the campaign period to discredit the government of the day have come back to haunt them in a most unfortunate way for the citizenry .
The current administrations campaign machinery was well oiled and articulate and they promised the nation not only a better future but specified in quite a detailed format what would be achieved in the first

one hundred days and beyond .
They created a captivating hype pitting the so-called hustlers against the dynasties who they blamed for all the ills that had befallen the country . They had the answer to all the ills of the country and they painted a rosy future .
The current president cast himself as the savior of the masses and took on a martyrs and messianic role since the then president did not support his candidature and they managed to demonize his preferred candidate .
It is instructive that since the current president was the deputy of the last one , his story was believable and had the stamp of authenticity since he was talking from the inside trying to save Kenyans from an impeding catastrophe .
Going by the scorecard of the past one year , all those promises were actually lies , hence the reason why the administration is hypersensitive to any type of criticism forgetting that we live in the age of the internet , which never forgets .
The third possibility is that we a dealing with an incompetent administration that may actually not know what it is doing . What is scaring is noticing the administration ’ s realization that running a country is a totally different cup of tea from winning an election .
They spent a gleeful period dismantling the last administration , accusing them of state capture and corruption only to wake up to the reality that appointing one ’ s cronies to the government is the surest way to incapacitate it .
The president ’ s recent complaint that he seems to know a lot more about his cabinet secretaries ’ dockets than they do is hollow since they were not hired for competence but as a political reward for support .
The constitution allows the president to hire technocrats to run the country but since his political considerations outweigh his administrative necessity the country is currently being run by unqualified political minions .
That is how Kenya finds itself being run by the IMF and the World Bank , a situation Kenya had extricated itself from during the Kibaki era . We seem to have taken some giant steps backwards to that painful Moi past with our voting cards .
An incompetent person is also a very aggressive person when his shortcomings are pointed out especially if they are in a position of authority . This could also explain why the administration seems to be so rude and inflexible .
The government ’ s principal unwritten role is to sell hope and that is what they did during the long campaign period when they promised Kenyans a better tomorrow with tantalizing campaign slogans .
The dismal performance that is now communicated with arrogance and insensitivity does not bode well for the government that came into office on such high expectations . They have just hired a Government Spokes-person , let ’ s hope they let him do his job .
