It appears that so much effort and energy was expended in winning the elections that not enough thought and planning was put in place in how the government was going to be run and the victors now certainly know that it does not run on autopilot .
The government has continuously reminded the citizenry that they inherited empty coffers from heartless thieves who one assumes must be Kenyans . The only concern is why they are still not apprehended and their assets frozen to recover misappropriated public monies .
campaign plus the hapless hustler whose life is now bottoms up , suspended in total confusion .
Kenyans seem to have boarded a time machine that has taken them back to 1992 , complete with the arrogant ‘ mpende musipende ’ slogan where every Tom , Dick and Kariuki in the administration can make roadside declarations to harass Kenyans .
When one Kenyan errs , all Kenyans have erred . An accident takes place and suddenly all drivers need to be reexamined at their cost . One is invited to issue training certificates as chief guest and suddenly all watchmen need to go back to school .
Then while a ranking government nabob is officiating at a graduation ceremony , he exasperates parents who have struggled to pay fees by informing them that the government does not have jobs for their children . How callous can a person get ?
What happened to that famous office of the government spokesman , who tried to make sense of government policies and procedures in words that were not only palatable to mwananchi but fairly understandable .
Things have reached a crescendo that even a former CJ has shed his trapping of glamor and high office and donned his activist persona in an effort of trying to safeguard the gains that the new constitution had conferred on Kenyans .
It is probable that perhaps the only way one

can test if a constitution works is to test it and in this case the government has given the opposition enough complaints to feel motivated enough to collect signatures to constitutionally impeach a president .
The opposition theatrics of boarding matatus in protest complete with bodyguards and the incessant calls by livid loyalists to arrest them is creating a groundswell of discontent of which the administration appears oblivious .
Baba seems to be relishing his newfound relevance and he is milking it for all its worth . His politics and personal brand resonate with the common man . The current administration managed to successfully sideline him as a dynasty but they are now rebranding him .
Omtatah is doing exactly the same thing , protesting in court although there are no calls for his arrest as party hawks cannot berate him since he is an independent . He is however lending credence to Baba ’ s antiques .
The rebels without a cause that were annoyingly interfering with the wananchi ’ s daily quest to earn an honest living by calling demonstrations are now being sought by willing demonstrators to lead them on marches as they begin to feel the economic pinch .
A case in court plus demonstrators on the streets are creating a legal quagmire for the judiciary and their ruling on a matter that now evidently is of great public interest will test the veracity of the independence of the judiciary .
In the meantime , the administration has found a new diversion . Kenya is making waves internationally as it takes on the west for creating conditions that were designed and are still keeping developing countries in debt traps .
The brave new Kenya is treading on pathways that many fear to walk as the wrath of the west is known to be swift and harsh for those underlings in the poor south that deign to question the authority of the mighty north .
The only strange part to this new stance , albeit admirable and grossly overdue , is the fact that Kenya has been on a loan getting spree and it seems rather incongruent to be castigating the same hand that is extending you a favor . Afterall loan seeking is voluntary .
Unfortunately , the average Kenyan is not impressed and would like an explanation as to why the mote in the international eye is more of a pressing issue than the log in our eye . The hustlers did not vote to champion African issues but Kenyan ones .
The clarion call by the loyalists has been that Kenyans should give the current administration time to weave the economic magic that was promised during the campaigns . What is irking Kenyans is that nobody in the current administration is walking the talk .
It has been insinuated oft times that Baba is in his element as a rebel and in the opposition , it would be exceedingly sad if the current administration became renowned for being adept at winning elections . Winning elections is a means not an end .
Kenyans spent five years in non-stop campaign mode and it feels as though we are slated for another five years of buck passing and refusing to take responsibility for the mandate that has been bestowed . The time has come to stop looking for the bogeyman .
