returned to Nairobi and headed a team there for about 3 years . Following that , I made a move to Royal Media during the great migration when figures like the late Catherine Kasavuli were also migrating . I subsequently joined Sportspesa before finally starting off with Aquila East Africa .
Looking back , the biggest challenge I encountered was that every time I transitioned to a new role , it turned out to be completely different from what I had envisioned . Many times , I felt the urge to return to my previous position . Despite this , being in the media industry , it wasn ' t obvious for me ; I might have also considered moving into the tech space .
To what do you attribute your personal success to in the profession ? What would be among the most important skills you have developed as a professional to continue to be effective and successful ?
I attribute my personal success to personal goals , principles , and work ethics , which are guided by Bible principles . By following these steps , one can succeed . Strategic thinking , planning , as well as delegation , are also crucial factors in achieving success .
What is your biggest fear ?
I don ' t have any specific fears .
What has been the proudest moment of your career ?
When I was at the helm of marketing at Sportspesa , it was one of the most active and biggest brands in Kenya .
Who has influenced you the most in your work life ?
A gentleman called Kabutha Nduati gave me a good start in my first two jobs . He was my overall boss at The Standard Group , and when he moved to Royal Media , I also joined him .
Anything you wish you had done differently ?
I probably should have read or studied more .
Where do you draw your inspiration from ?
There ’ s a pull and push effect . The push is when you fear things like poverty , but mine is a pull . My inspiration comes from the lofty goals I have set for myself . Essentially , my inspiration is based on my goals .
How do you unwind ? Family ?
To unwind , I engage in various activities such as playing golf , going to the gym , and traveling . I enjoy spending time with my family especially during the holidays , either at a bush destination or the beach . Specifically , I prefer going to the bush in April , the beach in August , and international destinations in December .
What is your most prized possession ?
My most prized possession is my family .
What changes do you anticipate in the work place over the next few years ?
I anticipate a lot of digital and AI involvement in everything and the use of big data in the workplace over the next few years .
What are among the best lessons you have learned about business and industry that you can share ?
Start small , start local but think global . Also being flexible to your clients ’ needs , and ruthlessly meeting their expectations within adopted budgets .
