On A Limping Monarchy

So , at last Charles has been crowned king , now officially King Charles III , which is a bit confusing for outside onlookers since the impression is that he became the king upon the declaration ‘ the queen is dead , long live the king ’.

It seems that this is a tradition only the British understand since they did the same to Kenya , getting internal self-rule in June 1963 , celebrating independence in December 1963 and becoming a republic in December 1964 .
This protracted process may have a symbolism that Kenyan ’ s miss but nobody complains of having two holidays for essentially the same event . Kenyan ’ s have not been shy to add a few more holidays to honor our founding and confounding fathers .

Charles is of course not the first to put the realm in the news , since his ancestor , Henry VIII , took the kingdom into entirely uncharted waters , but the king then had actual executive powers and was technically infallible .
It would be politically astute to forget that that headstrong and totally amoral king created and declared himself the head of the Anglican church , the very same church that is revered and held in high esteem in Kenya .
It is particularly satisfying to note that the British are not too proud to prescribe the same tonic , usually taken with a double Gin , to their economy as they had prescribed to the colonies of yore .
In colonial Kenya they left the tedious job of administering the
