CROSSFIRE

How To Set Multi- Dimensional Goals For A More Fulfilling Life

By Herman Githinji

I have always started a new year by setting goals . I am an ardent believer in planning . And there are no plans without goals . But let me be honest , in the last ten years , I have slacked in this area . I don ' t know really why , but I have felt like being stuck at a crossroads .

And when you think that way , it ' s right first to stop , seek help or advice , and then pick your next high road . I have been on this spot for quite some time now , and I wouldn ' t say I like it . 2020 forced most people to join me at this crossroads spot , but now we have to pick ourselves up and move on .
I want to make 2021 , and hopefully , the years ahead count . I don ' t know how most of you welcomed 2021 , but it was without pomp for me . This time around , I choose to sit and reflect . I know I need to start setting goals again , but what type of goals ?
Time happens whether we like it or not , whether we do something or not . Time is a continuum , and years are just milestones . So , I looked at the goals that
I used to set decades ago and discovered two things : mostly selfish and primarily commercial . Deep inside me , I knew I needed to change .
I know we all need money and lots of it , but is that all we should focus on in life ? Are there other critical goals besides money that we should be pursuing ? I know how we set goals . We write down what we will do or achieve on the outside without changing anything on our inside . And guess what happens , we try hard for a few months , but we soon get tired and falter .
Light does not give light because it chooses to , or because it ' s trying too hard , but because it naturally gives light and nothing else . In my past years , I have tried hard to be a pleasant person . A good family man . A spiritual and religious person . I have set goals around those areas and worked hard to achieve them , but failed .
This year , I want to try different . I want to live the rest of my life at peace and happy .
I know I cannot choose what comes my way and how things will span out into the future . But I know I can control how I react to them . Now I am wiser to set my goals on commercial grounds and focus inwardly on other areas to better respond to my environment .
Have you ever wondered why kids of rich folks find it hard to adapt ? One main reason is that they grow up believing that money can fix all problems . Hence , they use the money to solve their tribulations . They forget that difficulties are healthy . Tribulations build perseverance and perseverance , character , character , hope . Money cannot walk this journey for anyone . And if it does , then hopelessness abound .
When you face rejection , money cannot buy you , love . When in pain , money cannot buy you peace . You still would be lonely even when you have cash in your pocket or your bank account . While money might make some of these situations bearable or give temporary relief , it won ' t completely solve issues .

While cash will help solve some life issues , some problems will require inner grit and character to resolve . And that ' s where we fail . We over concentrate on fortifying ourselves against adversaries that are solved by money but fail to build ourselves against the enemy that attacks our inner core and deny us peace and happiness .

We use the money to clear tribulations from the road ahead instead of preparing ourselves to face the difficulties on the road ahead .
