into employment bureaus rather than development units .
We are aware that the majority of our counties are economically unviable and they are a huge drain to the national resources . The counties have also proved to be corruption havens and perhaps all we succeeded in doing was to devolve corruption .
We note , of course with alarm , that the BBI document does not address this glaring shortcoming mainly because the drafters of the BBI require the support of those idle county government functionaries to pass the BBI document .
The BBI actually proposes to make a bad situation worse by creating more idle government workers who will be paid from the same taxation that Orengo is decrying and yet Orengo is in support of the BBI yet BBI is the poisoned chalice . We are sufficiently confused .
What we all seem to be in agreement with is that the government is broke , but we don ’ t seem to be in agreement on how to resolve the problem . Informing Kenyans that the government is broke and then supporting a fund guzzling ego project seems out-rightly dishonest .
The BBI will shallow a whooping fourteen billion shilling for a referendum to allow a cabal of politicians to maintain a grip on the political scene and perpetuate their freeloading lifestyles at the expense of the overtaxed and ignored Kenyan .
It is an antithesis to democracy to suggest that the populous tribes in the country must have a seat in the executive otherwise there will be no peace in the country . Will we be amending our constitution every time a tribe spawns a demagogue that we feel we must placate ?
In the BBI proposal there is a disquieting assumption that intends to legitimize and promote tribalism rather than extinguish it . The positions that are being created are tribal in that only tribes with large populations will fill them for eternity .
Hence we are proposing to in-build into our constitution a dissention point in the future and already we are seeing the repercussions as smaller communities realize that they will be left out of the gravy train and are already positioning themselves to unite to demand equality .
We cannot buy peace by making the whole country poor since all the money the government earns will go to paying salaries and neglect development and productivity which will ensure that the country can pay for the massive infrastructure spending that it has undertaken .
As a country we have to remember that the Chinese are standing on the wings waiting for us to fail to pay and they will pounce . If we are already in a financial hole why are we digging deeper by fighting to adopt a position that will further exacerbate our already overblown government wage bill .
Orengo cannot read page one of the elementary government borrowing and not read page twenty of the government spending and do the simple math that points out that the BBI project that he supports by dint of being an ODM member will cripple the country and add fuel to the fire he is trying to put out .
Kenya is in dire need of politicians who speak from one side of the mouth , not both , who are able to wrestle us free from the Chinese debt trap and ensure that we do not inadvertently mortgage our country to please a few selfish politicians who want to remain forever relevant .
The constitution should not be manipulated to suit the whims and preferences of the current ruling class to the detriment of both the future and the sovereignty of our nation . Remember these were the same actors who rushed us to pass the very same document .
If they failed in their duty of care in the first instance why are we so keen to allow them to tamper with the document a second time ? We would have imagined that the politician ’ s priority would now be a recovery plan rather than an all-out fight over a document .
The country needs focus urgently but if we expect the politicians to solve our problems , we are seriously deluded . The only arsenal we have to keep them in control is our vote but we have resolved to sell that to them too along with our souls . Complaining on social media is not a solution !
