relationships. Find a hobby that you enjoy and can get you off work mode - golf, hiking, etc. Carve out some time in bite-sized chunks for social non work relationships. It could be every quarter, or you could plan an annual trip with other people you have interests with or get out of your comfort zone and travel with people you don’t know at least once a year. Just make sure you put it on the calendar, or it will never get done. Start Saying “No” I know it’s hard to say “no.” If you’re a people pleaser, you always want to tell people “yes.” But sometimes “no” is the best thing for not just you but also the person you’re telling “no” to. Wouldn’t it be better to be honest so that person knows you don’t have the time or mental capacity to get the job done well? Saying “no” allows them to find someone else who actually has the time to do high-quality work. Have a mentor or coach Having a mentor or coach can give you a new perspective. Find a safe space to share your feelings where no one is judging you and there’s no agenda for listening to you. You’re free to be you! Professional support can help you figure out what’s not working and also hold you accountable to achieve the results your desire. Give Back Even in the middle of a packed schedule, there’s nothing quite like giving back. Contribute to humanity. Give back to your family, your children, and grandchildren. Find a cause that’s meaningful to you and set aside time or money for that cause. It will help you feel a sense of purpose and put things into perspective. Choose to support people who can’t do it for themselves. I always like to say that God’s gift is who you are and your gift back to God is what you make of your life. Family relationships are Essential Don’t forget to create time for the people in your life. Fostering relationships with your kids takes time and creation. But I can tell you that one of the most rewarding feelings in the world is when my adult children actually want to hang out with me. So, schedule time with your kids and take family vacations when you can. Schedule Regular Exercise We all know that our bodies are temples, but we don’t always prioritize staying in shape. It takes time, energy, and commitment to do. It’s hard to wake up early when all we want to do is sleep! You need to make exercise a priority for your health and wellbeing. You don’t have to devote a ton of time to it, and it doesn’t have to be super rigorous activity. Just schedule some time to be active and away from the computer. I walk around where we live 2 or 3 times a week. You can swim, or go to the gym, whatever you fancy, just choose, schedule it and get it done. Breathe! Don’t forget to breathe while you’re working out! It may sound obvious, but breathing is said to add oxygen to your brain and gives you more clarity. So take time out for deep, cleansing breaths and relax whenever you feel foggy, disoriented or angry for any reason. It makes all the difference! You can THRIVE! Share with a friend or colleague!
