TALKING POINT
Why Avocado Is Bae And
‘Science Of Stupid’
By Boniface Ngahu
Bae? You Gotta be Kidding,
Women Eater?
The word Bae has been trending with its
inclusion observed in more than double
digit percent (20%+) of conversations
between lovers across online and mobile
platforms in the last decade. It is valuable
to the twitter generation where word-
space is considered to be some kind of real
estate.
Let us start with what it is not, Natasha
Zarisky of Esquire Magazine came
up with the following; Batting All
Eyelashes? (Action to accompany each
declaration of love?) Brave As (An) Eagle?
(Continued American pride?) Born After
Egalitarianism? (Everybody's got a right
to love.) Or Bacon And Eggs?
My own addition from what I have
overheard in relation to slay queens and
‘women eaters’ (male slay queen as defined
by a Kenyan judge in an Upwardly mobile
lady’s murder case) phenomenon it stands
for; Bear All Expenses (makes sense in
that context).
It Comes ‘Before Anyone
Else, the ‘Science of Stupid’
so Let’s Do It the Discovery
Channel Way
According to the Urban Dictionary, Bae
is an acronym standing for "before anyone
else," or a shortened version of baby
30 MAL27/18 ISSUE
or babe, another word for sweetie, and,
mostly stupid unrelated, poop in Danish.
Natasha states that, "bae" has appeared in
countless rap songs and web memes since
the mid-2000.
Science of Stupid a comedy series on
the National Geographic Channel shows
videos of people hurting themselves to
explain the science behind it. Its Motto
is "Learn the science behind the action
and remain safe" and it usually uses
self-recorded videos. Luckily, nobody is
getting hurt here we are just having some
fun and learning in a similar fashion with
the song, “Let’s do the way they do in the
Discovery Channel”. Discovery is the key
word here but the Channel is Geographic.
Out of 20 stupid Ideas; One
Will Change the World, Stop
Reggae or Both
One of the Kenyan political analysts,
Mutahi Ngunyi argues that the next
president of Kenya might come from a
region that has no history of being united.
He says that the idea is so powerful that,
‘it can stop Reggae’ and a song has it that
nobody can stop Reggae, because Reggae
is strong and true. The phrase refers to the
timelessness of reggae. We have argued
in this column that the truth is boring.
He doesn’t talk about the reggae bit but
one of his scholars at Forthall School of
Government quoted the saying that, “Out
of every 20 stupid ideas, one will change
the world.”
He shows infographics with all social
media icons, Facebook, Twitter et al. He
backs his future presidential prediction
with the punch line that the idea is great
because it is stupid. A popular Swahili
mythology figure (Abnuasi) known for his
trickery based on stupid ideas inspired the
saying, ’Ujinga ndio wali wao’ (Stupidity
is their staple food-wali). This is one
clear reason why you should never ignore
stupid ideas, like the Abnuasis wali they
are absolutely delicious and you can live
on them.
When CNN was a start-up its competitors
at that time referred to it as Chicken
Noodles News. “Who can sit to watch
news for 24 hours!?” they wondered. The
founders of CNN responded that they
look forward to broadcasting the end of
the world, LIVE. At this point, if this
column has inspired you to start something
or own a brand now or in the future please

Why Avocado is Bae: No
posting Nudes and 10 Tinder
Dates in a Week
The phrase, ‘Avocado is bae’ sounded
stupid ab initia. After several thought
provoking moments, my cool-hunters
came in to educate me. My thoughts
were really provoked by a meme showing
neatly peeled avocadoes with the caption,
“I hardly post nudes but this one… eish!
