Visit in the fall for a Ghostly Walking Tour featuring haunting stories of the city ’ s past or take a guided nighttime walk of Mount Hope Cemetery , America ’ s second garden cemetery .

Only open to guests four days a year , if your visit to Bangor coincides with the tour dates of the Thomas Hill Standpipe , this is an activity not to be missed . Climb 100 steps to the promenade deck to experience a truly unique view of the city from the top of this historic structure . Go on a summer scavenger hunt through downtown Bangor to find all of the unique wheat paste murals that decorate historic buildings or visit the Zillman Art Museum , Maine ’ s only collecting institution devoted to exhibiting and collecting contemporary art .
Greater Bangor is also home to one of the oldest continually-operating community orchestras in the United States , the Bangor Symphony Orchestra , led by Grammy Award-winning Music Director and Conductor , Lucas Richman .
