Located at the Hirundo Wildlife Refuge , this 2,400 acre nature preserve in Old Town is open to the public year-round and features seven miles of hiking trails , pristine ponds , streams , and plenty of critters for wildlife watching . Throughout the summer , take a guided canoe trip by moonlight down Pushaw Stream .

On your visit to downtown Bangor , you ’ ll be welcomed by a colorful mural at the corner of Main and Union Streets . Based on a vintage postcard , the mural reads “ Greetings from Bangor , Maine ” and was designed by local artist and business owner , Annette Dodd .
