Beginner, intermediate, and advanced/college level vocal jazz music will be presented. The first 30 participants will receive reading packets, and everyone will leave with insights into the new arrangements, along with information and resources to invigorate next year’s teaching. Singing “Outside the Box”: R/Evolutionary Ideas about Voice Jenness Lobby - Dr. Stephen Paparo, clinician This interactive session offers a wealth of fascinating new information and practical applications based on discoveries in the fields of neuroscience, brain research, and cymatics that are beneficial to choral conductors and singers alike. Participants will experience new rehearsal techniques based on scientifically-based findings, which can easily be incorporated in choral rehearsals and add an exciting and exploratory component that fosters curiosity and creative problem solving skills. Teaching Guitar through Popular Music Education 110 Little - Scott Burstein, clinician This workshop is centered on the belief that all people are musical, demonstrated by leveraging the musical choices of the individual. This is achieved through performance of modern band music – culturally relevant music of students taught through approximation, music acquisition theory, and social equity. Participants will learn to play guitar through the popular music, focus on reading through iconographic notation, utilize improvisation, and demonstrate how all people are musical and can enjoy playing through familiar repertoire.
