Next up is our Group Jazz festival hosted by Joshua Champagne at Sanford High School on January 7.
Rob Westerberg of York High School and Ray Mathieu of Gorham will be conducting our Southern Maine Middle School Honors Festival at Westbrook Middle School on March 3-4, 2017.
The District 1 6th Grade Honors Festival will take place on March 11 and will be split into two groups for the first time this year. The Northern site festival will take place at Bonny Eagle Middle School with guest conductors Camille Saucier and Erin York from Freeport Middle School. The Southern site festival will take place at Kennebunk Middle School.
Our final festival of the year will take place on April 7-8 at Westbrook High School. District 1 decided to move the High School Honors Jazz component to its own date and make it a High School and Middle School Honors Jazz Festival. Thanks to Craig Skeffington and Krystle Smith( and others) for all your hard work in putting this festival together.
Finally we would invite you to join us in congratulating two nationally recognized music teachers from District 1. Amy Delorge is the band director at Biddeford Middle School and is the 2016 Music and Arts Educator of the Year. Stephanie Sanders is director of concert band, advanced band, middle school jazz band and teaches electronic music at Berwick Academy. Stephanie has been chosen as the Mike Kovins Technology Institute for Music Educators( TI: ME) Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to both Amy and Stephanie.
