1887. Gianni, the second of three children,
grows up with his brothers, Antonio and Carlo,
in a bourgeois environment which is culturally
eclectic and open to the cultural movements
of the time. The three brothers spend their
childhood between Varano and Milan,
and attend the very best schools.
Antonio dies of tuberculosis at the age of 22. to push him towards the faculty of architecture,
but he tenaciously follows his own ambitions
and moves to Venice to enrol at the Fine Arts
Academy. However, he ends up frequenting
the art studios of various painters, in particular
Vizzotto Alberti’s studio in Venice, Leonardo
Bazzaro and Emilio Gola’s studio in Milan
something he finds preferable to academic study.
1899. As adolescents Carlo and Gianni Maimeri
chose different paths. Carlo graduates
in industrial chemistry and specializes in Zurich.
He begins his career as a researcher during
the war years at the company Ernesto Lepetit.
Gianni immediately shows signs of being
interested in painting. In vain his father tries 1910. Anna Dossena comes into Gianni
Maimeri’s life. She becomes his muse, model
and inspiration. In 1917 Anna and Gianni marry.
Anna, as well as being his favourite model
is also the companion who provides him
with the serenity and support which
is of fundamental importance to him.
