FORMER

PRESIDENT

TOM

SPENCER

The outgoing Club President shares his thoughts for the 2014/2015 season and the changes made from previous years

Well boys, where to start. How do you really sum up a whole year in just a few pages? To be honest when I sat down to collect my thoughts on what to say, I realised it would be a little easier if it hadn’t been 2 years since I actually saw a Pres’ speech, but unfortunately last year, booze was the winner.

On the field it’s been a good year. The 1s look poised to make a much deserved return to Midlands 1 in BUCS. Good at hockey, good at life, need you look further than the 1s CLO for any more clarification on just what a year we’ve had. Don’t be fooled, most of the chat in there does belong to Tricker, Patches just did the formatting in the grid.

He has though been a very proactive captain, and alright to play under so I guess he is quite deserving of promotion.

The Chirps found life in their new Saturday league hard, but much experience was gained by a side full of new faces. Ali has lead the Team fantastically helping to develop many of the younger guys in the side. The Chirps sit top of their BUCS league with a couple of huge fixtures remaining, but I’m sure they will turn around the form of this week and overcome the Poly on Wednesday to move that step closer to Division 2.

Moving on to probably the most inappropriately named group of blokes in the club,

Team Sex. Lead this year by

a man once described by a certain club veteran as "punching well above his league”. But that is exactly what the 3s have again gone and done this year. Despite Saturday struggles, the 3s have yet again secured their place in BUCS division 3 for next season, a fantastic level for any 3rd team to be playing at. With perhaps a little optimism ahead of the final few weeks of term, we could now be looking at having 3 teams in the top 3 Midlands BUCS leagues next year – something the club hasn’t had since the 2010/2011 season, which is before any current club member arrived at the University – that would be a great position for us to be in.
