Declarer played the ♠7 from Dummy , Jack from East , ♠K from South . South must not hold up the ♠K or he will never score a trick at all in that suit .
Declarer scratched his head , counting his winners all the while . Thanks to the opening lead , he knew he had one Spade winner , three fast tricks in Diamonds , four fast tricks in Clubs . That made a total of only eight winners .
