AROUND CAMPUS
Rubberband Cannon
During the rubberband cannon math investigation , sixth graders develop an understanding of statistical thinking . The investigation culminates in a competition in which the boys explore the effects of force and angle on the distance a rubber band will travel .
Creative in Commons
Commons is a time for boys to engage in an activity of interest . Some boys play chess , others read , or work on art projects . This group of fourth graders formed a club and worked all year to create their own comic book . On the last day of school they celebrated the publication of Spooderman !
A Signature Learning Experience in Our Nation ’ s Capital
The sixth grade trip to Washington , D . C ., reflects our desire to incorporate signature travel learning experiences into our educational program . Highlights of this year ’ s trip included meeting Senator Gillibrand , a tour of the Capitol , a trolley tour of the monuments at night , and a visit to the Arlington Cemetery . While visiting national sites of historical significance , the boys gain a true appreciation for the importance of civil discourse in a democracy . The ability to respectfully share differing perspectives in order to promote greater understanding is cultivated in history classes and throughout the curriculum .
