1943— In March, Josef Bergmaier and Franz Krumm fall on the Eastern Front. Both were part of the 1932 championship-winning team. In October, the Grünwalder Stadion is severely damaged in an air raid and FCB start playing their matches at the Dantestadion.
1944— FC Bayern‘ s head offices are completely destroyed in an air raid in July. A large part of the club‘ s archive is also wiped out. But the club survives.
1945— FRANZ BECKENBAUER IS BORN ON 11 SEPTEMBER AND GERD MÜLLER ON 3 NOVEMBER.
1946— FCB president Josef Bayer, who had been imprisoned by the Nazis in 1944, is commissioned by the American occupation authorities to draw up new statutes for the club. The basketball and table tennis sections are founded in the same year.
White horses pulled the Red and Whites to the 1932 title celebrations.
1947— Kurt Landauer returns to Munich from exile. On 19 August, he is elected president of FC Bayern for the fourth time. His deputy is Siegfried Herrmann, meaning the club is led by the same duo that won the championship in 1932.
1948— FC Bayern are much more successful than during the war and record the biggest Oberliga win in their history, 11-0 against Viktoria Aschaffenburg.
1949— Kurt Landauer, through his persistence and negotiating skills with the US military administration, secures the training grounds at Säbener Straße for FCB.
1950— FC Bayern start focusing on international football again and host UC Santiago de Chile, Hibernian, Fiorentina and Racing Club Paris in Munich for friendlies.
1951— LEFT-BACK HANS BAUER RECEIVES HIS FIRST CALL-UP TO THE NATIONAL TEAM FROM SEPP HERBERGER.
1952— Heinz Lettl is the newcomer of the season. The striker, who had only been promoted from the youth section to the senior team the previous season, scores 13 goals.
1953— A team of Bayern and TSV 1860 players take on Burnley in front of 30,000 spectators at the Grünwalder Stadion. The top English team thrash the Munich side 5-1.
1954— Hans Bauer, the only Bayern player in the Germany squad at the World Cup, is crowned world champion.
1955— FC Bayern are relegated for the first and only time in their history.
1956— But FCB demonstrate their comeback qualities by going straight back up just one year later. The crucial factor in the team‘ s return to the Oberliga was the attack, which racked up 89 goals, the most in the league.
1957— On 29 December FCB beat Fortuna Düsseldorf 1-0 with a goal from Rudi Jobst and lift the DFB Cup for the first time.
1958— Despite the triumph, FC Bayern has major financial worries. The entrepreneur and millionaire Roland Endler is elected president and saves the club from financial ruin with a cash injection.
1959— IN A LEGENDARY DERBY IN FRONT OF 32,000 SPECTATORS AT THE GRÜNWALDER STADION, BAYERN TURN AROUND A 2-0 DEFICIT AND EVEN TAKE THE LEAD IN THE 34TH MINUTE. BUT TSV 1860 EQUALISE AGAIN. IN THE END, FCB RUN OUT 6-4 WINNERS.
1960— In May, FC Bayern fly to New York for an international tournament. Our team are knocked out early, but that was a secondary matter. The men from Munich are now also known in the USA.
1961— FC Bayern put their faith in young talents. Three young strikers, Rainer Ohlhauser, Joachim Thimm and Karl Schneider, join the club. The average age of the team is 23. The season gets off to a sluggish start, and FCB finish third in the Oberliga Süd.
