1919— Landauer and Townley return as president and head coach respectively. They come up against one of the best teams of the time, MTK Budapest. FCB lose 7-1 in front of 12,000 spectators and are inspired by the Hungarians‘ style, known as Danube football.
1920— THE CLUB CELEBRATES ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A HUGE PARTY. THE BAND OF THE 1ST BAVARIAN SCHÜTZENREGIERUNG PERFORMS AT THE BALL. CONDUCTOR GEORG FÜRST, LONG-TIME MEMBER AND COMPOSER OF THE“ BAYERN MARCH“, TURNS EVERYONE INTO PARTY ANIMALS.
1921— Because the team is not performing successfully despite the appointment of former MTK Budapest head coach Izidor“ Dori“ Kürschner, Landauer resigns along with the board. Fred Dunn and Siegfried Herrmann take over.
1922— Kurt Landauer becomes president again. In sporting terms, things are looking up: Bayern comfortably beat the South German champions FC Wacker 3-0.
1923— FC Bayern celebrate many big victories, including against former bogey team Karlsruher FV( 7-1) and at a tournament in Switzerland against Young Fellows Zurich( 6-3) and FC Basel( 6-1).
1924— In spring 1924, after five years, FC Bayern dissolves its merger with Jahn München. It had already separated from MSC in 1919. After 18 years, the club is once again independent.
Dahoam( at home) in Munich: The first competitive matches were played at Clemensstraße from 1901.
1925— THE STADIUM ON GRÜNWALDER STRASSE BECOMES THE NEW HOME OF FC BAYERN.
1926— Bayern sweep through the final round of the South German Championship, beating reigning champions VfR Mannheim 10-0 and FV Saarbrücken 8-3. In the final game against Fürth, in front of 30,000 spectators, FCB win 4-3 and are crowned South German champions for the first time.
1927— On 10 April, FC Bayern play a friendly against top South American side Peñarol Montevideo. 30,000 spectators celebrate a 2-1 win.
1928— FCB once again become South German champions and reach the final of the German championship for the first time. Even though they lose 8-2 to Hamburger SV in the final, FC Bayern are now one of the top teams in Germany.
1929— Germany is labouring under a severe economic depression, yet the FC Bayern membership rises to 1,500.
1930— Richard“ Little“ Dombi from Vienna is named head coach and continues the tradition of Danube football at Bayern.
1931— 19-year-old Oskar Rohr, who joined Bayern from VfR Mannheim in 1930, demonstrates his quality. He is a gifted striker and makes FCB‘ s game more purposeful and successful.
1932— Bayern confidently reach the final of the German championship, where they face Eintracht Frankfurt. In front of 55,000 spectators in Nürnberg, FC Bayern run out triumphant 2-0 winners with goals from Rohr and Krumm. The next day, thousands of Munich residents turn out to welcome the new German champions. They form a guard of honour from the main railway station to
Marienplatz, and cheer the players, who are transported to the reception in horse-drawn carriages.
1933— FC Bayern are becoming ever more competitive on the European stage and beat 12-time Hungarian champions Ferencváros 3-2, with Oskar Rohr scoring the winner.
1934— A fiercely-contested derby, and controversial too. With Bayern leading 2-0, the“ Lions“ of TSV 1860 pull one back and are then awarded a dubious penalty due to a hand-ball in the dying seconds, which they convert. The FCB fans storm the pitch and the Bayern players leave it without giving the customary“ German salute“.
1935— FC Bayern are enjoying a good season but suffer a terrible shock when head coach and unifying figure Ludwig“ Wiggerl“ Hofmann dies of meningitis at the age of 35.
1936— The Nazi regime issues decrees that lead to all youths under the age of 14 being excluded from sports clubs. It heralded the end of the schools section and the club‘ s important youth work.
1937— Centre-half Ludwig“ Lutte“ Goldbrunner, for a long time the record international appearance-maker at FC Bayern, is part of a Western European side who take on a Central European side in Amsterdam. In the same year,“ Kicker” magazine name Lutte the best centre-half in Europe.
1938— KURT LANDAUER IS INTERNED IN DACHAU CONCENTRATION CAMP. 13 OTHER FCB MEMBERS ARE IMPRISONED THERE ALONGSIDE HIM. AS HE HAD FOUGHT IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR, HE IS ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE CAMP AFTER 33 DAYS. HE EMIGRATES TO SWITZERLAND IN 1939.
1939— Because more and more players are being called up for military service, Bayern‘ s line-up constantly changes. It is also why FCB have an extremely poor season and end up battling( successfully) against relegation.
1940— The league continues to operate despite the war. Bayern have a mixed season.
1941— Five clubs from Bavaria and five from Vienna compete in the newly created Alpine Cup. FCB lose their first game 4-1 to Admira Vienna. The men from Munich only manage one draw and lose every other game. The war years are also dreadful for FCB in sporting terms.
1942— As air raids start across Munich, FCB captain Conny Heidkamp and his wife Magdalena whisk the club’ s trophies away to safety. They are packed into crates and hidden in a farmer’ s stables in Ascholding, near Wolfratshausen.
