Alternate Ending
Chapter 1: The Miss | By Noah Stanich
At first, it started off normal. Everything happened like it was supposed to. It was not until the very end when it changed. Anakin had stolen an X-Wing and had set off with the intention of destroying the Trade Federation Starship.
Everything had gone according to plan. Anakin was about to fire, and nothing could happen that would change it. He knew he would have to time it perfectly. If he missed, the Trade Federation would take control of the whole galaxy and Anakin might never be free.
Anakin was approaching the core. He would have to fire in a few seconds. He waited 5 seconds and then fired. The laser grazed the side of the core and went off to the side. Anakin had missed. Maybe could take another shot.
But the security ships had come after him. He couldn’t turn back. He would have to lose them and land on another planet. The nearest planet was Geonosis. The ships were not firing at him. The guards had been given special orders not to shoot the boy. They would capture him and keep him prisoner.
He looked behind him. The ships were gone. He had lost them, but he had a new problem: There was a field of asteroids in front of him. There was no way he would make it around. He would have to go through.
He tried to think of it as a game. He swerved around several asteroids, having several close calls. One asteroid had just grazed the side of the X-Wing. He had almost hit an asteroid, but had swerved out of the way at the last second. He had made it through the field. The X-Wing had nearly run out of fuel, but it would be enough to reach Geonosis.
This was Anakin’s first ever time flying a spaceship. He did not know how to land. He barely knew how to fly. How could he possibly land safely? He thought about what he had done to get the ship going. He would have to push the throttle forward as he landed.
As he neared the planet’s surface, he saw what looked like a cloud of dust. It was a sandstorm. Anakin was used to sandstorms as they happened often on Tatooine. He knew what to do if one happened. But landing an X-Wing in a sandstorm was a completely different story. In fact, it was illegal to fly a starship in a sandstorm on Tatooine.
Anakin felt the wind blowing his ship off track as he tried to land. Anakin had completely lost control of the ship. The ship had hit the ground and was rolling around in the rocks and sand. The sandstorm carried on for a few minutes before finally clearing up. Anakin opened the cockpit and got out. He immediately felt a chill. Geonosis was colder than Tatooine, as it only had one sun. It was getting dark.
Anakin had never been to Geonosis before. He had never travelled to any planet. He had been stuck on Tatooine his entire life. He didn’t have enough time to build a hut, so he would have to stay in the X-Wing for the night.
The next day, he began laying down rocks for the base of his hut. He continuously put down layers of rocks until he could no longer reach. This had taken him several days. He now had a shelter. He would stay here until someone had rescued him.
