The D-Day Experience
I traveled from Houston, Texas to Dallas to pick up a couple friends. Then it was off to Oklahoma. We all were very excited to get to the park. We traveled all night to get there.
Once there, we set up camp and got a bit of rest. Driving through the camping area, I start to realize how big this place was. I had never been to this event before so I was not sure what to expect.
After getting a bit of sleep I made my way to the vender row and saw all the booths set up for business. This year there was not as much as in years past, from what I was told. This did not bother me. There were plenty of markers and gear for sale. Some of the deals were awesome. I did get a couple small things I was looking for. It kind of felt like hitting a home run.
I met many great people on vender row, even made some new friends. Networking at this event was a lot of fun. There are people from all over the country that come to D-Day. Some of the people I ran into I knew from FB. We sat and talked about the game, new products and told all kinds of stories. It was a whole lot of fun.
The game play was great. The fields were set up perfect. There were tons of places to hide and set up an ambush. If you are a sniper, you had many places to make a good hide and get the shots you were looking for.
The Mag-Fed game was crazy fun. I played with Rap4’s Storm and had a great time. The players I ran with were good players and we held our position for a long time. Trying to push forward on the battlefield proved to be quite the challenge. The undergrowth in the section of the field we were in, proved to be menacing.
Communication also proved to be a challenge at this field as well. Our radios struggled to link up with the rest of the team. The opposition eventually overwhelmed us. Our side did not win the game, but that was ok. The game was fun and the field was great. I think this game was one of the most intense Mag-Fed events that I have been involved in. I would do it again.
The big game on Saturday was interesting. I played With the Fourth ID, Commanded by “Reaper”. We were tasked with being a distraction, on Utah Beach, This would allow the rest of our Allied forces to move to the wall and take the objective.
The paintballs were flying. It was a wall of paint. We had to wait for our opportunities to push. We had plenty of smoke to deploy to help blind out movements. The German side had a fury of tanks that were relentless. The uphill fight was a serious challenge. After “Reaper” gives the Allied forces a bit of motivation, it was time to exit the boats. As we left the boats we ran to our shooting position, absolutely crazy amount of paint was raining down on our position. So many allied were shot out before they could get to their position of battle. Taking a look at history and how this battle was fought, you can see and experience the battle. Oklahoma D-Day Adventure Park did it right. This reenactment was damn close to what I have read and seen in researching this war. It is amazing that anyone from the Allied side even survived the real war. For me this was a great thing to experience, it gave me a different perspective of D-Day. This is the intent of the creator of D-Day Adventure Park.
With all that is going on at D-Day there is no reason you why you should not make it out to this event. It is nothing like any event you will ever go to. It has it's own environment, culture and plenty of action and fun to get involved in. I definitely suggest you go out to Oklahoma and Check this event out.
After all the action on the field, I hit the showers at the park. Then it is back to camp to recharge with some BBQ and a cold drink, conversation about the day’s events and sharing the stories from the field.
Other events that went on at D-Day there were helicopter rides. This was a great way to see the whole park and from a different perspective. An obstacle course that players competed in for prizes attracted a lot of players. Track Chair races, BBQ and other fun stuff going on. Vender row was crazy. A real tank even drove around for a bit. I think there was even a crazed group of glow stick people that showed up out of nowhere. You never know what is going to happen or what you are going to see when you go to this event. That is part of the fun. Some teams / units even march through and sing cadence and other chants. Like I said, you never know what is going to happen at D-Day.
This has to be one of the coolest events I have ever been a part of. I will go again.
Thanks to the Staff of D-Day for making this a memorable event.
