What is Okonite ?
Richmond Kentucky is home to one of the six Okonite facilities across the United States .
Okonite was created in 1878 and has been a provider of a variety of insulated cables since then that are used across the electric industry .
The Richmond plant produces Okoguard EPR cables , Armored cables ( such as CLX or Loxarmor ), Railroad signal cables , and control cables . The cables produced by Okonite are used for a variety of purposes , from power and control , to regulating medium to high

voltages . These cables are used in industries ranging from electric utilities , to data centers , to military bases , to railroad and transit systems .

Okonite facility , the highest number of employees at any Okonite facility . Likewise it sits as the largest facility in the US , sitting at more than 790,000 square foot .
Since June of 1976

Okonite has been owned by its own employees through an Employees ’ Stock Ownership Trust , which allows for employees to own company shares .
Okonite has a policy of environmental management and sustainability , aiming to create high quality products while reducing the impact on the local environments caused by their facilities . Since 2017 Okonite has managed to exceed or meet their goals every year in reducing greenhouse gas emissions , water use , and electrical use .
