MADE TO LEAD
5 . SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DON ’ T LET PERFECTION STOP THEM .
There will never be the perfect time to do something amazing . Successful people understand this and don ’ t use their perfectionism as a substitute for procrastination . Gretchen Rubin , the Happiness Project author , expressed her quote in the imperative : Don ’ t let the perfect be the enemy of the good . Hers was a direct way of putting it , forcing us to stop and think about our actions . But , what about you ? How can you put the principle into practice in your daily experience ? Here are some options :
Business Idea : Instead of waiting until you have a complete airtight business plan , simply start your business .
Software : Instead of ironing out every last bug , release your beta .
Products : Instead of adding every conceivable improvement and feature , ship your product . Release improvements later .
Health : Instead of finding the right gym , selecting the right outfit and picking the right workout , just go for a walk .
Website : Instead of finding the best server , CMS , theme , appearance and font , just get a landing page up and start selling .
Email : Instead of trying to create a well-written and grammatically impeccable email , just get the message out and click “ send .
6 . SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DO NICE THINGS , BUT DON ’ T WASTE TIME TELLING EVERYONE .
One of the many problems that the advent of social media has created is the idea that successful people should perform for the entertainment of others . As a society , we often forget about the amount of time these phenoms spent alone with their craft , while no one was around . Do something small each day for a whole week to progress your dream and tell no one .
7 . SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE REMIND THEMSELVES OF THE INEVITABLE .
We have a finite amount of time on earth so there ’ s no sense in hiding from how fast life goes by . Successful people understand this and use it as motivation in letting no day go by wasted or squandered . Tip : picture yourself as an older version of yourself watching you throughout the day , and do today what you ’ d regret later in life . Take note of how you feel .
8 . SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE WORK HARDER THAN EVERYONE AROUND THEM .
My mother once told me that , “ There will always be someone stronger , faster , smarter , and more capable than you , but you ’ ll never be outworked .” Though some may view this as counterproductive , I ’ ve never had such sage and practical advice in my life .
9 . SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT FATE IS BY THEIR OWN DESIGN .
The most successful of their field don ’ t “ take days off .” They ’ re consistently dedicated to bettering each aspect of their life daily and don ’ t leave their lives up to chance .
10 . SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE EMBRACE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM .
Nobody likes being torn down . But , instead of getting defensive and immediately dismissing the negative opinions as “ hating ,” successful people consider the source , listen , heed those words , and use them to grow . Next time you ’ re confronted with negativity , agree and thank them for it . It will completely disarm your criticizer .
