Ornare in viverra
The first competition was in the spring of 1956 in Switzerland.
It is the most watched non-sporting event with about 125 million tuning each year.
Ireland holds the record for the highest number of wins, having won the contest seven times. Sweden is second with six wins as of 2015.
France, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom are joint third with five wins. Next comes the Netherlands, with four victories, and three countries have won three times, Denmark, Israel and Norway.
WINNING COUNTRIES
DID YOU KNOW...?
HOW DOES IT WORK?
After a series of semi-finals, each country performs a song on live television followed by voting.
All vocals must be sung live, songs can't be longer than three minutes, only six people are allowed on stage and live animals are banned. Live instrumentation is not permitted. This rule exists because there isn't enough time to wire the instruments during the short break between the songs.
