President ’ s Message

Hello MAA Members ,
Thank you for electing me president of the MAA for the coming year . As I start my term , I remember back to a call I got from Dan McCarthy , mca many years ago , asking me to help correct MCA exams at Elm Bank – fast forward 10 + years , and here I am today . Thanks Dan !
I ’ d like to start by welcoming Keith Bernard , mca and Steve Vernon , mca to our board of directors . I would also like to recognize Neal Reilly , mca for his hard work as outgoing MAA president . Thanks to Neal , our member volunteers , and MAA ’ s management team , we had a great run in 2022 !
The year started out strong as MAA members benefitted from exceptional education through our alliance with ArborEXPO . Arbor Day of Service brought much-needed tree care to communities across the state – including a significant tree planting project at the Public Garden in honor of industry legend Henry Davis . Our Modern Climbing Techniques workshop was launched to rave reviews this summer . We recognized Rip Tompkins , mca as the VISTA Award winner , sponsored the New England Tree Climbing Competition , welcomed 52 new members and 18 new MCAs into our ranks , and our Fall Field Day was another great success .
As we move into 2023 , I look forward to an education-packed ArborEXPO on March 29-31 , our group Arbor Day of Service celebration at Bird Park in Walpole on April 28 and continuing to build awareness around the importance of tree preservation and conservation .
I am honored to serve this fine organization . I encourage all of you to answer the call to volunteer and get involved with the MAA . What you get back will far outweigh the time you give !
Happy holidays !
Kevin Cleveland , mca MAA President
