Safety Saves & Demo Day Rocked!
MAA members turned out in force for the association’s Safety Saves & Demo
Day held on October 29, 2019 at the MHS’ Gardens at Elm Bank in Wellesley,
MA. Hundreds of members took advantage of this popular event to demo
trend-setting equipment, check out the most innovative technology, and
learn best practices to help them stay safer on the job.
More than 200 members participated in classroom sessions featuring indus-
try safety expert Dr. John Ball. New equipment, practices, and techniques
emerge every year in the tree care profession. With these changes come new
ways in which tree workers suffer fatal and non-fatal injuries. Dr. Ball led a
spirited series of safety discussions on arborist
safety in the field. One of his top recommenda-
tions is to read and follow the Z133, American
National Standards for Arboriculture Operations –
Safety Requirements. He believes that reading and
observing the Z133 guidelines could reduce the
tree care profession’s fatal and non-fatal injuries by
more than 70%.
