Over a group of 20 participants attended the liberating event at Farmeco, endorsing the ideology behind the philosophy Mojatu and their FGM cause pushes towards educating communities. One of the most important topics brought up at the event was the importance of abolishing this outdated and barbaric practice. Many participants and ambassadors fighting for the FGM community erected plaques close by where the legacy tree was planted.
These commemorations read personal quotations with the names of those whom had written them signed below. One read ‘Support others and unite to end FGM’ these words both visceral and hard hitting, a reminder to those that this practice is indeed still a prevalent issue. Not just within African culture but world-wide, yet more worrying practiced within the U.K, our own domicile which has subsequently become a safe haven to survivors seeking refuge from FGM. Prayers were said at the meeting in respect of those who have lost their life to this practice, and for those who have endured it and those who liberate against it.
FGM survivors, advocates, doctors and health providers were present for the planting of their legacy tree in honour of FGM survivors and their promise to end FGM by 2030.
