Leopard

Early morning game drives are often rewarded with an opportunity to watch leopard mothers supervising their cubs as they wrestle , pounce and vie for her attention . More often , solitary leopards are seen lying on an Acacia tree limb , usually with a paw or two dangling . If yesterday ’ s hunt was successful , they may have dragged an impala , gazelle or antelope into their tree for easy access and to protect it from hyenas or other scavengers that might steal the meat . Hunting the next meal is always difficult , but these cats can reach speeds nearing 35 miles per hour and can leap distances of up to 20 feet , thus improving their chances .

Lion

Capturing lions on camera is easiest in the golden hour prior to sunset . That ’ s when you ’ ll encounter adult females in twos and threes lounging with the pride before embarking on a night of hunting prey for their young . Adult males who have separated from the group seem to love the limelight . These lone cats claim the high ground so they can survey the surrounding area , making your photos all the better . If you ’ re lucky enough to catch a chase , bring out the long-lens camera if you have one . Catching an image of a running lion while keeping it in focus is quite a feat .
