Depuis que l’ hôtel Hennessy a été repris par le groupe Indigo en 2011, il est entré dans une démarche de valorisation de la culture et de l’ art mauricien. » Julien Glannes, Manager de l’ hôtel Hennessy, est l’ initiateur du projet Petrusmok. Si son hôtel s’ est déjà fait un nom au cœur de la nouvelle et déroutante ville d’ Ébène, sa librairie commence tout juste à attiser la curiosité. Un petit boudoir cosy rempli de trésors mauriciens.
Petrusmok est la première librairie à ne proposer que des livres écrits par des auteurs mauriciens ou aux propos liés à l ' île Maurice. Une initiative fort louable, mais à l’ intitulé bien étrange! Petrusmok? Comme le nom d’ un roman de Malcolm de Chazal, ce monument de la littérature mauricienne. Un ouvrage magistral qui raconte comment les mystères de l’ univers et de la vie sont inscrits dans les montagnes et les rochers de l ' île Maurice.
En entrant dans la librairie du Hennessy, vous tomberez sur un exemplaire original de Petrusmok datant de 1951( soit sa date de publication) et dédicacé par Malcom de Chazal. « Ce livre fait partie du patrimoine mauricien » s’ enthousiasme Julien Glannes. Le lieu recèle de talents de la littérature mauricienne( et ils sont nombreux!), du prix Nobel de littérature 2008 Jean-Marie Le Clézio( venu en personne visiter la librairie) aux épatantes Ananda Devi, Nathacha Appanah et Shenaz Patel, en passant par le poète Khal Torabully, l’ incontournable Alain Gordon-Gentil, et même l’ actuelle présidente de la République Ameenah Gurib-Fakim. Au total, plus de 200 ouvrages en français, en anglais et en créole, écrits du XIXème siècle à nos jours, sont proposés au public.
Une librairie qui, à l’ image du pionnier L’ Atelier à Port-Louis, organise régulièrement des événements littéraires, animés notamment par le journaliste Finlay Salesse. De quoi fidéliser un public local comme étranger, de plus en plus séduit par la littérature mauricienne.

If the hotel has already earned a reputation in the heart of the new and vibrant Ebene City, its library has only just begun to arouse curiosity. A small and cosy boudoir filled with Mauritian treasures.
Petrusmok is the first library to offer books exclusively written by Mauritian authors or about Mauritius. A highly commendable initiative but with a very strange name! Petrusmok? Just like the name of one of the novels of Malcolm de Chazal, a monument of Mauritian literature. A masterful book about how the mysteries of the universe and life are engraved in the mountains and boulders of Mauritius. Upon entering the library of the Hennessy Park Hotel, you will come across an original copy of Petrusmok dating back to 1951( i. e. the date of its publication) and signed by Malcolm de Chazal.“ This book is part of the Mauritian heritage,” enthuses Julien Glannes.
This library abounds with the work of talented Mauritian writers( and there are plenty!), from the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2008, Jean-Marie Le Clézio( who came in person to visit the library) to the great Ananda Devi, Nathacha Appanah and Shenaz Patel, including the poet Khal Torabully, the famous Alain Gordon-Gentil, and even the current President of the Republic, Ameenah Gurib-Fakim. A total of more than 200 books in French, English and Creole, from the 19 th century to the present day are made available to the public.
Following in the footsteps of the pioneer L’ Atelier, located in Port-Louis, the library regularly organises literary events hosted by the journalist, Finlay Salesse. What a great way to establish local and international loyalty with an audience who is increasingly seduced by Mauritian literature.
