BUSINESS
Great Place To Work, c’ est aussi un label …
Maurice accueille-t-elle favorablement les initiatives de Great Place To Work? Great Place To Work Mauritius.

Mr Fournier, by virtue of your profession, you have travelled the world … I have worked in many countries across Western, Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in Asia and in the Indian Ocean. I have been a specialist in Business Consulting for more than 30 years. Such experience has contributed to the enrichment of my vision from a cultural perspective. I have been living in Mauritius for seven years now. I feel like a Mauritian!
What did you choose to represent Great Place To Work in Mauritius? I am convinced that the economic performance of companies is closely related to their social performance It would be highly profitable for the business community and public organisations, in terms of visibility and efficiency, to place their people’ s well-being at the heart of their concerns. This involves a reform in the organisations’ managerial practices.
Tell us more about Great Place To Work … It is a research and exchange platform. Over 10 million employees complete our survey every year. Our role is to share the results with companies across the globe to help them build a culture of trust and live up to the ideal of creating a better society through great places to work.
How do you contribute to create such places? The first tool we use is the Trust Index. It is a totally anonymous survey, in which staff members tell us about their experience as employees. Then, we assess the managerial practices through a Culture Audit. After reviewing the results, we submit our recommendations to the company and offer practical support.
How does such support take place? It is a transformation over time, which depends a lot on the management’ s will power and motivation. We are talking about a change of behaviour all along the management chain. The idea is to build a trust-based leadership and to help managers.
You strongly believe that companies play a social role … While I hold the connection between economic performance and working conditions to be self-evident, I believe even more in the positive impact of the enterprise on the life of its staff members, both within and outside the workplace. When people are happy at work, they naturally spread positive vibes around them and in the society.
Great Place To Work is also a label … As part of our certification program, companies are selected to compete for the“ Best Workplace” title. In 2017, LUX * Resorts and Attitude Hotels came top of the 21 Mauritian nominees. Thanks to the label, local businesses can attract new talents, retain their best staff and position themselves as innovating, agile and efficient companies.
How did Mauritius welcome the Great Place To Work initiative? I see a positive trend. Between 2015 and 2016, I took my pilgrim’ s staff and went on to meet business operators. In 2017, we provided support to about twenty of them. In 2018, we will extend our services to some sixty companies across the island. We used to operate under the aegis of the French office, but today we are known as Great Place To Work Mauritius. I am feeling extremely optimistic. Mauritius is more than a picture-postcard island: it is a thriving economy, reputed for the good governance practises of its business operators, a leading country in the African region, and a small territory where things tend to move fast and far.
Do you have a vision for the region? Of course, Mauritius is the gateway to the Indian Ocean and the African continent. Our strategy is to expand to Reunion Island, Madagascar, the Seychelles, the Maldives and Africa, eventually. We will then provide Mauritian companies with international support in Global Management Consulting, thereby helping them to stand out against foreign competition.
