La biodiversité désigne la variabilité et
la diversité du monde vivant, et elle est
particulièrement riche sur les îles de par
leur isolation géographique. L’océan
Indien est d’ailleurs un « hotspot » : La
World Wildlife Foundation estime qu’il
abrite 38% des espèces coralliennes
du monde et 11 000 à 20 000 espèces
marines. Nos îles portent donc une
lourde responsabilité face au reste de la
planète. Les Seychellois l’ont compris,
et ils n’ont attendu personne pour
prendre les devants.

Biodiversity, a key focus . Biodiversity
is the variability amongst living organisms in
a particular habitat. Due to their geographic
isolation, islands have a particularly rich
biodiversity, and those of the Indian Ocean are
considered a hotspot. According to estimations
from the World Wildlife Foundation, 11,000
to 20,000 of the world's marine species and
38% of its coral species are found in the Indian
Ocean, placing a heavy responsibility on our
islands with regard to the rest of the planet.
The people of Seychelles are well aware of this
and have taken the lead in the matter.
