Bringing sophisticated technology and self-
sustaining infrastructure to a remote island
destination is no mean feat. Jonathan Blue takes
us through the exciting journey of creating an
ultra-luxury, self-sustaining paradise resort in the
jungle.
YOU HAVE JUST OPENED THE KANXUK
BLUE MAYA RESORT ON THE SIAN
KA’AN BIOSPHERE COASTLINE, A
UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE ON
THE EASTERN COAST OF MEXICO’S
YUCATAN PENINSULA. WHAT ARE SOME
OF THE CHALLENGES YOU FACED
OPENING A LUXURY RESORT IN SUCH A
SECLUDED LOCATION?
There were so many challenges and obstacles
that we had to overcome to construct and
complete KanXuk Blue Maya Resort. Most
importantly, we had to create a self-sustaining
infrastructure for all of our utility, plumbing and
power requirements. It was imperative that we
bring technology to the jungle for our guests
so we designed and built special systems for
satellite television and internet connectivity. As
we are the first resort in the biosphere it was
critical that we do things properly to set the
standard for any future development. With
much effort, we have succeeded in creating a
luxury resort in the midst of a thriving, natural
environment. There was no disturbing of
the local habitat which thrives amongst the
property.
WHAT ARE GUESTS LOOKING
FOR WHEN THEY CHOOSE YOUR
