What woman / women do you admire the most and why ?
I come from generations of independent working women . Personally , I admire both of my grandmothers who lived during the Spanish civil war and worked nonstop , despite one of their significant others being detained in a concentration camp . I admired their tenacity and how they never lost track , kept focused and looked for joy despite tragic situations .
Has being a female in a maledominated space posed any challenges for you throughout your career ? If so , how did you overcome them ?
I am sure there were many times early on in my career during the time I was not aware of inequalities . I was fortunate to receive great guidance from a strong team of female mentors who guided me and provided invaluable insights . As a result , I was fortunate to have been considered for roles in countries that have historically been more maledominated .
What is your proudest achievement to date ?
My international journey . I always had a desire to immerse myself in new cultures . As a result , I stepped outside my comfort zone and took calculated risks to live and work in unfamiliar places . I live life in real time and never want to ask myself “ What if ?”
What will be the biggest challenge for the next generation of female leaders in hospitality and how do you overcome them ?
The biggest challenge for the next generation of females in hospitality will be for women to break through as leaders in technology across the industry . To break through this glass ceiling , current companies need to embrace a more open culture .
What is the most important message you want to share with women just starting out or looking to grow their career in hospitality ?
My most important message for women looking to grow their hospitality career is to find a mentor ; keep focused , factual , fair and lead by example .
And lastly , why Hospitality ?
The kindness and an open attitude are hospitality ’ s DNA .
When you think about it , the idea of offering hospitality , leisure , and comfort to anyone going through the doors has a meaning and purpose of what we do transcends all .
As a plus side , the opportunity to expand your career globally and learn about new cultures and civilizations .
